Toe and Quarter Clips

What are they?
Clips help improve shoe retention, protect the hoof wall, and maintain proper hoof alignment under strain. They prevent the shoe from slipping or shearing off nails, which commonly happens when the shoe is shod with more traction, or the horse's conformation creates an abnormality in their stride.
What is the difference?

Toe Clips

  • Location: Center front of the shoe, at the toe.

  • Purpose: Prevent the shoe from shifting backward.

  • Why they're necessary: They reduce stress on the nails and hoof wall, especially for horses in heavy work or with thin hoof walls.

Quarter Clips

  • Location: On each side of the shoe, near the quarters (between toe and heel).

  • Purpose: Provide even more stability than toe clips alone.

  • Why they're necessary: Often used on performance or therapeutic shoes to help distribute pressure evenly and prevent shoe movement during intense activity.
